Incident on TER train line

A person was struck by a TER train on Wednesday, October 21, in Fouillouse, a commune in the Loire department, according to the SNCF TER network, which announced the incident around 7:15 a.m. on X.

Traffic disruption follows incident

The incident resulted in a disruption of traffic in part of the department, with trains unable to operate between the Roanne-Saint-Étienne and Saint-Étienne-Boën routes. Delays also occurred in the rest of the region.

SNCF resumes normal operations

The SNCF announced around 9:30 a.m. that traffic would return to normal, stating that "the safety checks are complete, traffic will resume gradually." Several tasks and checks must be carried out when an incident involving a person occurs on or near the tracks, which explains the delays sometimes caused by such incidents.

Investigation and emergency procedures

An investigation was conducted on site before traffic resumed. The SNCF indicates that the driver must first trigger the alert signal so that all trains in the area can stop. Some trains may resume operation at the decision of the regulator.

Emergency coordination and next steps

Then, emergency services and the police are requested and intervene. "The local incident commander coordinates the emergency services," the SNCF specified. The train driver is replaced. If the victim dies, the funeral services are notified. A judicial police officer is dispatched to the scene.

Traffic resumption after investigation

Once the investigation is complete, the officer may authorize the resumption of traffic, which is then organized by the SNCF.
