Great Britain's Georgia Taylor-Brown claimed victory in the final women's event of the World Championship Triathlon Series (WCTS) in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The race featured a challenging hilly course, and Taylor-Brown completed the 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, and 10km run in two hours, three minutes, and five seconds, finishing 36 seconds ahead of the United States' Taylor Spivey. Germany's Lisa Tertsch, the reigning WCTS champion, took third place, 1 minute and 28 seconds behind Taylor-Brown. This victory marked Taylor-Brown's best performance of the WCTS season and her first win on the tour since 2023. She has focused on longer-distance triathlons this year, shifting from the shorter, faster WCTS races. Prior to this, she had won on the T100 tour in Spain in May. Her previous best result in the WCTS this season was fourth place in Samarkand in April. Other British athletes also competed, though with mixed results. Beth Potter, who was second in the overall WCTS standings, finished sixth, nearly two-and-a-half minutes behind Taylor-Brown. Other British competitors included Kate Waugh (10th), Sian Rainsley (14th), and Olivia Mathias, who did not finish the race. Potter was unable to take advantage of the absence of Cassandra Beaugrand, the current WCTS leader from France, who chose not to compete in Karlovy Vary. Cassandra Beaugrand leads the championship with 4,000 points, the maximum available, heading into the WCTS Grand Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, on 26 September. In the men's event, Olympic champion Alex Yee is leading the British challenge. The men's race is set to begin at 14:00 BST in Karlovy Vary, with Yee aiming to secure a strong position in the upcoming finals.
