Great Britain's Beth Potter secured a silver medal at the latest World Championship Triathlon Series event in Pontevedra, Spain, finishing behind France's Cassandre Beaugrand, the Olympic champion. This was the final race of the series, and Potter needed a win to overtake Beaugrand in the overall standings. However, she finished fourth, with her teammates Georgia Taylor-Brown and Kate Waugh taking second and third places behind Beaugrand. Beaugrand completed the 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, and 10km run in one hour 50 minutes 52 seconds, more than a minute faster than Taylor-Brown. Despite Potter's strong performance, Beaugrand extended her lead during the second lap of the run and maintained it to the finish. This victory marked a dominant season for Beaugrand, who has now won all five World Championship circuit races she has entered. Taylor-Brown had previously won the Czech Republic leg of the series earlier this month, securing her first win on the tour since 2023. In the men's event, Britain's Alex Yee finished with a strong performance in the 10km run, earning a bronze medal. Although he did not finish in the top three overall, Yee closed a significant gap in his final discipline, the run, to join the top three with around 2.5km remaining. The men's race concluded with a thrilling sprint finish, where Australia's Matt Hauser narrowly edged out Portugal's Vasco Vilaca in a photo finish. Both athletes completed the course in one hour 39 minutes 31 seconds, with Yee finishing just four seconds behind them. Vilaca's second-place finish was enough to secure him the overall championship title. Yee's run time of 28 minutes 46 seconds for the 10km demonstrated his strength in the final leg of the triathlon, even though he finished just outside the podium in the overall standings.
