Omoda's new vehicle challenges its brand image

At the Paris Motor Show, Omoda showcased its new Omoda X, a vehicle that appears to contradict the brand’s current focus on "urban crossover" vehicles. This new model is designed as a large off-road vehicle, which differs from the brand’s previous emphasis on more city-oriented designs.

Omoda X's design inspiration

Recently unveiled in Wuhu, China, the Omoda X is said to draw inspiration from the world of Mecha robots. This influence is evident in its design, which features a long hood, a vertical front face, prominent fenders, large black protective surfaces, and exaggerated attack and exit angles that emphasize its off-road capabilities.

Technical details of the Omoda X

The Omoda X has a ground clearance of 200 mm and a fording depth of 700 mm, making it suitable for challenging terrain. Its dimensions are 4,954 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,702 mm in height, and a 2,700 mm wheelbase. The vehicle offers hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions with both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options. It also has a towing capacity of 1,800 kg and can carry 75 kg on its roof.

Positioning in the European market

While the Omoda X is not expected to compete directly with models like the Fiat Grizzly or Dacia Duster, it is comparable in size to the Land Rover Discovery. The vehicle is anticipated to be released in Europe, likely in France, to meet growing demand in the Chinese market. However, no official release date has been announced for its European debut.
