Chery Group, a Chinese automaker, is expanding its Omoda range in France, following the introduction of its Chery and Jaecoo models. The new Omoda 5 hybrid is set to debut during the Paris Motor Show and will aim to attract buyers through its pricing strategy. Previously, the Chery group focused on the Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 7 in the French market. Now, with higher-end models like the Jaecoo 7 and Jaecoo 9 already available, the Omoda 5 is preparing to enter more competitive price segments. The Omoda 5 adopts the stylistic elements of the larger Omoda 7, including signature lighting and grille design. Inside, the vehicle features heated and ventilated seats, a massaging driver's seat, a panoramic roof, and a Sony audio system with eight speakers. However, it has a relatively small trunk volume of 372 liters for a vehicle that is 4.54 meters long. The hybrid powertrain used in the Omoda 5 is similar to those found in other Chery and Jaecoo models. It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, producing a total power output of 165 kW (224 hp), with the electric motor alone providing 150 kW. The battery has a capacity of 1.83 kWh. The Omoda 5 starts at 30,990 euros, while the Jaecoo 7, which offers the same powertrain, is priced at 29,990 euros, positioning it as the main competitor. The Omoda 5 is expected to later be offered in an all-electric version, which could further expand its appeal in the French market. This move reflects the company's strategy to diversify its offerings and compete in the growing hybrid and electric vehicle segments.
