easyJet to add Starlink internet to planes
easyJet plans to add Starlink internet service to its planes starting in early 2027, with all aircraft equipped by early 2028, except for its older Airbus A319 planes, which are being retired.New service aims to improve passenger experience
The Starlink service will allow passengers to stream content, play video games, browse the internet, and access flight-related information through the airline's app, including details about their destination and the in-flight menu.Starlink internet developed by SpaceX
The Starlink service is developed by SpaceX, a private space company. easyJet’s CEO, Kenton Jarvis, said the partnership would improve the experience for millions of passengers and offer tailored options for both business and leisure travelers.Starlink uses low Earth orbit satellites
Starlink uses a network of 9,000 satellites orbiting at about 600 kilometers above Earth, much closer than traditional satellites that orbit at 36,000 kilometers. This reduces delays in internet connections, making the service faster and more reliable.Other airlines already use Starlink
Several major airlines, including Air France-KLM, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Lufthansa, have already started using Starlink. Air France-KLM plans to have all its planes equipped with Starlink by the end of 2026.Customer feedback has been positive
Air France-KLM’s general manager, Ben Smith, said customer feedback on Starlink has been "extraordinary," and that it is now the industry standard for fast and strong in-flight WiFi. easyJet has not yet confirmed whether the service will be free or require an additional fee.
