A survey by Robert Half has found that the use of AI-generated applications is causing delays in hiring processes and leading recruiters to rely more on in-person interviews. The survey, which included 1,000 employees and 500 recruitment managers in France, revealed that 67 percent of French recruitment managers believe hiring delays have increased because of applications created using artificial intelligence. The issue is not just the quantity of applications. According to the study, 36 percent of recruiters struggle to tell the difference between a resume generated by AI and one created by a human. Additionally, 22 percent of recruiters have noticed an increase in applications from unqualified candidates. This standardization of resumes makes the evaluation process slower and more expensive, especially for employers already facing high pressure. To address these challenges, recruiters are adjusting their strategies. A quarter of them (24 percent) say they now require in-person interviews or additional steps to confirm a candidate's skills and experience. About one in five (18 percent) spends more time verifying references, with the candidate's permission. In-person interviews are once again becoming a critical part of the hiring process, especially for evaluating relational skills like communication. On the candidate side, the use of AI is widespread. Nearly half (43 percent) of professionals surveyed use AI to revise their resumes, and 40 percent use it to prepare answers for interviews. A third (33 percent) use AI to research companies, 32 percent to identify keywords in job postings, and 31 percent to personalize their resumes and cover letters. Robert Half does not recommend avoiding AI altogether. Instead, the company advises using AI as a preparatory tool but not as a replacement for personal expertise. Matthieu Imbert-Bouchard, general director of Robert Half France, notes that as applications become easier to create and optimize, interviews and practical tests are becoming even more important to assess what's truly behind a resume. Demonstrating real expertise and providing genuine value are becoming crucial factors in recruitment decisions.
