The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are making a return to the West Coast for the first time since 2017, with the event set to take place on September 27 in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+ from the Peacock Theater. This marks a significant moment for the VMAs, as they shift their focus back to California after several years of hosting in New York City. Snoop Dogg, a 13-time VMAs nominee and three-time winner, will make his debut as the show’s host. Known for his influence in hip-hop and his long-standing relationship with MTV, Snoop Dogg has previously performed at the VMAs, including a memorable 1999 closing performance with Dr. Dre and Eminem. He also participated in a tribute to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. and performed again in 2022 alongside Eminem. In a statement, Snoop Dogg described hosting the VMAs as a "full-circle moment," highlighting his deep connection with the network and the awards show. This year’s nominations reflect a mix of veteran and emerging artists. Madonna leads the pack with 11 nominations, including for Video of the Year for "Confessions II — The Film," Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year for "Bring Your Love." Taylor Swift follows closely with nine nominations, including a nod for Artist of the Year. Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each received seven nominations, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson have five each. In a special tribute, the legendary rock band Nirvana will be honored with the Video Vanguard award, recognizing their groundbreaking influence on music and music videos. This award celebrates artists who have had a lasting impact on the visual and cultural landscape of music. The VMAs are expected to showcase a mix of performances, surprises, and moments that highlight the evolving nature of the music industry.
