Devon Pritchard outlines Nintendo's strategy
Devon Pritchard, who took over as president of Nintendo of America in January, shared her future plans in an interview with Variety. These plans include the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, the possible arrival of GTA 6, and the fortieth anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.Switch 2 outpaces competitors
Pritchard said the Switch 2, expected in 2025, will give Nintendo an advantage over Xbox and PlayStation, whose new consoles are expected to launch later. She emphasized the Switch 2’s enhanced visuals and performance, which she said will allow developers to create new, unique experiences exclusive to the console.Switch 2 supports new and existing games
The Switch 2 will not only support new games but also host ports of titles previously released on other platforms. For example, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was released on Switch 2 last week. However, Pritchard stressed that the console is more than just a platform for ports, as it has sold over 23 million units and features many first-party games.Major titles coming to Switch 2
Several major games will be released on the Switch 2, including Resident Evil Requiem, which will launch simultaneously on other platforms. Call of Duty will return to Nintendo consoles for the first time in over ten years with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launching this autumn on Switch 2 alongside Xbox and PlayStation versions.GTA 6 details remain unclear
Pritchard did not confirm whether GTA 6 will be available on the Switch 2. She said the decision would be made by Take-Two and Rockstar, and she has no information to share at this time.Zelda's fortieth anniversary
Another major project under Pritchard's leadership is the fortieth anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. This includes a remake of Ocarina of Time, a series of concerts, and a live-action film from Sony set to release in April. Pritchard said the celebration will focus on the entire Zelda universe, including its characters and stories.Nintendo's target audience
Pritchard reiterated Nintendo’s goal of appealing to a wide audience, from children to older adults. She said the company aims to offer diverse experiences on its consoles and wants to be a platform where people can enjoy different creative experiences and have fun.
