At La Réunion, the Konpani Ibao theatre group creates performances that blend traditional masks, Creole language, and local folklore into a unique artistic expression. Their work is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the island and has garnered significant public interest. With the production Du sel sur nos chaussures, they partner with the Swiss theatre company PerpetuoMobileTeatro to explore new creative directions and bridge cultural perspectives. This collaboration highlights the shared themes of identity, transformation, and interconnectedness between the two groups. In Du sel sur nos chaussures, five performers move together in a continuous, flowing motion that structures the performance. This movement creates a purified space where fragments of stories emerge, evoking changing landscapes and powerful emotions. The production draws inspiration from the ideas of Édouard Glissant, a theorist who explored the concept of creolization—the blending of cultures. Created in Maubeuge, the performance celebrates the richness of a world shaped by multiple identities and cultural influences. The production features performers Sara Bocchini, Nelly Cazal, Ettore Chiummo, Tahaa Lopez, and Ashvin Virassamy. It includes contributions from various artists and collaborators, such as dramaturg and director Valérie Cros and Marco Cupellari, as well as composers, costume designers, and lighting designers. The creative team includes writers Kenneth George and Marcelino Méduse, and the production is supported by several institutions and funding bodies across France and Switzerland. The performance is co-produced by several French theatre organizations, including CDNOI - Centre Dramatique National de l'océan Indien, Réunion (FR); Théâtre Les Bambous, Réunion (FR); Le Manège Maubeuge, scène national transfrontalière (FR); Théâtre de Lorient - CDN, Lorient (FR); and Théâtre L'Atelier à Spectacles, Dreux (FR). It has also been supported by residencies at Spazio ELLE in Locarno, Switzerland, and at Théâtre Vladimir Canter in La Réunion, France. The performance will take place on 3 November 2026 at Le Manège Maubeuge, scène national transfrontalière.
