Philips introduces new OLED television model

The Philips 55OLED761 is part of the new OLED761 series, designed by TP Vision for those looking to try OLED without aiming for the high-end. It is a 55-inch model with Ultra HD resolution and an OLED panel capable of displaying 120 Hz natively, according to the manufacturer. The series also includes 65-inch and 77-inch models.

Advanced processor and features

At the heart of the television is the 7th generation P5 AI processor, which uses artificial intelligence to improve details, reduce noise, and smooth out movements. The 10th generation processor is reserved for the OLED811 and OLED+ models. The television includes support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10, and HLG. Dolby Vision 2 is reserved for other 2026 series, such as the OLED811 or the QLED The One PQS9001.

Gaming and audio capabilities

Gaming features include HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM, FreeSync Premium, and G-Sync compatibility. The audio system is 2.0 with 20 watts, compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The television runs on Titan OS, with support for AirPlay 2, Matter, Google Home, and Alexa. Ambilight, a feature that projects the dominant color of the image onto the wall, is a main advantage of the Philips brand, with AmbiScape extending the effect to connected lamps.

Design and connectivity

The Philips 55OLED761 faces competition from established models, including LG's OLED B6, Samsung's S85 and S90 series, Sony's Bravia 8 II, and alternatives in Mini LED from Panasonic, TCL, or Hisense. Philips must highlight Ambilight, a complete software, and aggressive pricing to stand out. The television has a sober and contemporary design with thin borders and a matte black frame. The back of the television is where Ambilight takes its place, with LEDs distributed on three sides of the chassis.

Remote control and image quality

The remote control is of medium size with a pleasant cover and well-spaced buttons. It includes dedicated buttons for streaming services and a microphone for voice command. The remote control works via Bluetooth and is powered by batteries without solar or USB charging. The backlighting of the buttons is only provided for the buttons accessing the streaming platforms and Titan Channels. The Philips 55OLED761 uses an OLED panel, where each pixel emits its own light, resulting in a high contrast between dark and light areas.

Audio and software features

The television is equipped with a light sensor, allowing automatic optimization of details in dark areas and improvement of the color temperature. Watching films on streaming platforms and Blu-ray, the image of the Philips gives the impression of an OLED panel faithful to what one expects from this family. The night scenes benefit from deep blacks, the details in the shadows remain readable, and the faces keep a natural rendering with default parameters. The contents in Dolby Vision are particularly convincing, with a relief and depth rarely found on an LCD at this price.

Power consumption and pricing

The Philips 55OLED761 has a 2.0 audio system of 20 watts, labeled IntelliSound by Philips, and compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The television does not pretend to replace a real soundbar but is intended to be sufficient for watching the news, series, or movies without immediate frustration. The voices remain generally well articulated, which is the main criterion for daily use. IntelliSound automatically optimizes the audio settings according to the contents watched. The eARC compatibility of one of the HDMI ports allows connecting a Dolby Atmos soundbar, which is preferred for cinema enthusiasts.

Software and energy use

The Philips 55OLED761 runs on Titan OS, the software platform of TP Vision that has replaced Android TV and Google TV on the brand's models. Titan OS focuses on speed and simplicity, with a home page composed of rows of content, shortcuts to applications, and recommendations from your streaming services. The interface is clear, readable, and easy to get to grips with, including for users unfamiliar with connected televisions. The application catalog covers the essential needs of the French, with Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube, Canal+, Apple TV, France.tv, TF1+, or M6+. The television integrates Alexa, accessible via the microphone on the remote control, and is compatible with Google Home, Matter, and Apple Home.

Energy consumption and availability

For electricity consumption, the television consumed an average of 50 watts during the broadcast of the series The 100 for 4 hours, with the sound and image settings adjusted to the Reference mode. The consumption in standby is 0.4 watts. Launched this summer at 1,399 euros, the Philips 55OLED761 is available for less than 1,200 euros (around 1,100 euros at some retailers), at the time of writing these lines. It is also available in 65 and 77 inches, launched respectively at 1,699 and 2,799 euros but already found a bit cheaper.
