Elections postponed in Romilly-sur-Seine

Residents of Romilly-sur-Seine will vote in new municipal elections on January 31 and February 7, 2027, after the March election was annulled by an administrative court. The decision was announced by the prefecture on October 28, following a ruling from the administrative court in Châlons-en-Champagne.

Court cites nationality omission

The court annulled the March election because the ballots did not include the nationality of a candidate listed twentieth on the diverse center list of Adam Da Mota. This candidate, who is of Dutch nationality, was part of a four-way race that included outgoing mayor Éric Vuillemin of the diverse right, the National Rally, and a leftist union list.

Da Mota wins annulled election

Adam Da Mota had won the annulled election with 36.25% of the vote in the second round, narrowly defeating Éric Vuillemin, who received 34.26%. The National Rally and the leftist union list received 17.28% and 12.21% of the votes, respectively.

Ballots deemed invalid

The administrative court ruled that ballots were invalid because they did not specify the nationality of candidates who are nationals of other European Union member states. The court stated that this omission rendered the ballots null on their own, according to its decision.

Temporary delegation appointed

Until the new elections, a special delegation of three members will be established on November 5 to perform the functions of the municipal council. The delegation’s authority will be limited to administrative tasks related to conservation and urgency, as specified by the prefecture.
