The cooperative LPM (Les Producteurs de la Marche) held its traditional autumn sale of Limousin breeding bulls on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in La Souterraine. Despite challenges such as a tough economy and poor weather, which have affected the mood of the farming community, the event saw strong attendance. For the sale, 56 calves were chosen from 32 farms by technicians. Six calves could not be presented, 19 were auctioned, and 31 were sold through sealed bids. The auction generated a lot of excitement, with an average sale price of 7,584 €, up by 200 € from the previous year. This increase was largely due to the sale of two calves for 12,000 € and 10,000 €, respectively. The highest price of the sale was achieved by Verychic (lot 2), an exceptional calf presented by David Beaudiment (36). This breeding bull, ready for mating, has an outstanding pedigree and physical traits, including a fine bone structure, good milk quality, and ease of birth. It was bought in co-ownership by the Gaec Camus Olivier and Simon and the Gaec Camus Huberson (87). Another calf, Alonso (lot 10), born at the Gaec Martin Les Mignots, reached the symbolic 10,000 € threshold. This meat-type calf, also ready for mating, was purchased by the house Arsicaud (17) on behalf of the EARL Courraud (17). Other calves also drew significant interest. Volodymyr, from Thomas Letessier, was sold for 9,800 € in co-ownership to the EARL de la Guitoune and the Gaec des Cards (23). Aladin, from the Gaec Courtitarat, went for 9,500 € to Cyrille Rousset (03), and Vendredi, from the EARL Deslandes, was acquired in co-ownership for 9,100 € by Isabelle Ballereau and the Gaec Valbert (36). After the auction, the sealed bid sale had prices that were closely grouped, with an average of 5,444 €, ranging from 3,800 € for the youngest calf to 7,009 €. The highest price in this section was achieved by Ange (lot 54), from the Gaec Raffin Ponroy, sold for 7,009 € to Xavier Ricatte (57). Aragone, from the EARL Jandeaux, also crossed the 7,000 € threshold, going to the Gaec Lachaud-Riotat (23) for 7,005 €. At the end of the day, all the animals were sold, achieving a 100% sales rate. Jean-Pierre Poujaud, a representative of the cooperative, praised this result, calling it unexpected given the generally poor morale among breeders. He attributed the success to targeted selection work that meets the immediate needs of the farms. Half of the bulls sold were returned to cooperative members. Poujaud explained that this year, there were more calves ready for mating, aged 18-24 months, due to high demand. He emphasized the quality of the preparation of the animals by their breeders and praised the work of the technical team, who are always attentive to the needs of breeders, members, and customers.
