Fire breaks out in Meria

A fire broke out at 9 am on Sunday in the commune of Meria, at a location known as Mortedda. The fire started in low and medium shrubland in a hilly area above the Aria Marina camping site.

Strong wind aids fire spread

The fire is progressing rapidly due to a strong Libecciu wind, with gusts reaching 60 km/h. This wind is blowing consistently at around 50 km/h, making it difficult for firefighters to control the blaze.

Fire covers 15 to 20 hectares

Between 15 and 20 hectares of land have already been affected by the fire. The fire front has now reached the coastline, and the flames are moving toward the sea.

No buildings currently threatened

According to the Haute-Corse Fire and Rescue Service, no buildings are currently at risk from the fire. The fire started in an area of small and medium gorse on hilly terrain along the edge of a track.

Road closed and resources deployed

The RD 80 road has been closed by law enforcement to ensure safety. Numerous resources from the SIS 2B are being deployed or are en route to the area to combat the flames.
