Piers Morgan has claimed that Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish forward who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2025 for £64 million, feels "disrespected" by the club and was effectively told to leave during the transfer window. Gyokeres made his debut as a late substitute in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, but had not featured in the club’s first two matches of the season. Morgan alleges that Gyokeres was "deliberately benched" in an attempt to push him out of the club. According to Morgan, Arsenal had shown interest in signing Julian Alvarez from Manchester City over the summer and had reportedly considered a potential swap deal involving Gyokeres. He claimed he was "told on good authority" that the club intended to sell Gyokeres if they could secure a deal with Atletico Madrid for Alvarez. However, Alvarez reportedly had reservations about returning to the Premier League and was set on a move to Barcelona, a deal that Atletico Madrid refused to facilitate. As a result, Alvarez remained in Spain, and Gyokeres stayed at Arsenal, facing an uncertain future and limited playing time. Morgan discussed these claims on his show Sports Uncensored, stating that Gyokeres has been frustrated by the lack of opportunities and feels he has been treated unfairly. “Viktor Gyokeres has hardly had a kick since the season started and I was told on good authority that he was being deliberately benched,” Morgan said. “Arsenal were going to try and trade him for Julian Alvarez and in the end they couldn’t make that deal happen. I was told that Gyokeres is p****d off about the way he's been treated and feels he's been disrespected.” In addition to the Gyokeres situation, Morgan also claimed that Arsenal had pursued a high-profile transfer for Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, was reportedly interested in signing the Brazilian forward, but Vinicius ultimately signed a contract extension with Real Madrid. “I’m told Arsenal thought they had Vinicius Junior who would have been brilliant for us,” Morgan said. “What I do know is Arsenal thought they had him and thought they had him until the day before he signed a new contract at Real Madrid.” Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the season with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, coming from behind to secure the win.
