French cyclist **Guillaume Martin** has signed a one-year contract with the Belgian team **Lotto-Intermarché** for the 2027 season, marking his return to a Belgian team after previous stints with **Cofidis** and **Groupama-FDJ United**. Martin, 33, previously rode for **Wanty–Groupe Gobert** from 2016 to 2019. He stated that returning to a Belgian team was his first choice, citing good memories from his time with **Wanty–Groupe Gobert** and a continued relationship with team manager Jean-François Bourlart, who has known him since that period. Martin expressed his belief that he still has the capabilities to aim for a top 10 in a Grand Tour, citing his 11th place finish in **La Vuelta** as evidence. He noted that the **Giro d'Italia** is the only Grand Tour where he has not yet finished in the top 10, which remains one of his goals. Martin also mentioned that the **Tour de France** holds special significance for him as a French cyclist, given the event's prominence in his home country. Martin acknowledged that his experience will raise the average age of the young **Lotto-Intermarché** squad but emphasized his dual role as both a mentor and a potential team leader. Jean-François Bourlart, CEO of **Lotto-Intermarché**, stated that Martin's experience is valuable for the young squad, and the team wants to give him the freedom to pursue personal results while also relying on him to guide the younger riders. The move is seen as a strategic decision by **Lotto-Intermarché** to balance youth and experience, with Martin's return bringing both leadership and proven performance to the team. His presence is expected to have a positive impact on the team's overall strategy and development in the upcoming season.
