A British-Nigerian social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, 43, died following a procedure involving penis filler injections at an unnamed clinic in Thailand. The treatment took place in March during a holiday he was taking with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, at a Marriott hotel in Bangkok. Ubiribo received 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine, substances commonly used in cosmetic procedures to add volume to skin. After the procedure, he went for a massage and began experiencing chest pain, passing out twice before being taken to Sukhumvit Hospital by ambulance. At the hospital, Ubiribo was initially coherent and able to answer questions from medical staff. His wife informed doctors about the filler injections, and his primary care physician in London confirmed his medical history, which included a previous joint operation, pre-diabetes, and gout. Doctors recommended a CT scan to assess his condition, but Ubiribo lost consciousness before the scan could be performed. An inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court later determined that Ubiribo suffered a pulmonary embolism—a blockage in a blood vessel in the lungs—requiring him to be transferred to intensive care. Despite 100 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), he died shortly after. A postmortem conducted in the UK found material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid used in his penis filler, concluding that the procedure likely caused the embolism. This finding was supported by a Thai autopsy as well. Pathologist John du Parcq noted that cellular material found in Ubiribo's lungs matched the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure. Known by the nicknames "Tiny" and "Ego," Ubiribo was a popular social media personality with 185,000 followers on Instagram. He was buried in a gold coffin reportedly valued at over $600,000 in a funeral held in Kensington. Attendees included his childhood friend and Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido, who spoke at the service, expressing that the events "don't feel real" and calling his death "heavy." Ubiribo lived an extravagant lifestyle, including a $1.1 million mansion in Los Angeles and a $600,000 apartment in Shepherd's Bush. His wife, Danielle Simba Allen, is an Anglo-Zimbabwean socialite and fashion designer. The couple married in Zimbabwe in 2022 in a lavish ceremony.
