Renewed restrictions in Lyon's Presqu'île

The prefect of the Rhône, Étienne Guyot, renewed on Sunday, October 25, the ban on gatherings and the curfew in part of Lyon's Presqu'île. The measures were introduced following two weekends of mobilization marked by violence and property damage. The restrictions continue in the center of Lyon.

Curfew and gathering ban details

The prefect renewed the ban on gatherings from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and implemented a curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday morning. Law enforcement will remain deployed to enforce the prefectural orders. These measures apply to part of the Presqu'île, particularly the Bellecour square area.

Violence and mobilization in Presqu'île

Two weekends of tense mobilization occurred in the Presqu'île. On Saturday, October 17, groups looted many businesses and set fire to the tourism office at Bellecour square. A week later, on October 24, about 10,000 people demonstrated in Lyon despite the prefectural ban. Confrontations and property damage were again reported later in the day.

Continuation of curfew and restrictions

The state services announced the continuation of the curfew implemented since last Monday. From Sunday, October 25, to Monday, October 26, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., it will be forbidden to move around and to participate in gatherings in the traditional sector, part of the Presqu'île. The curfew will allow the prefecture to maintain pressure more than a week after the initial violence.

Gathering and movement restrictions

Gatherings will be prohibited from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the affected area. All demonstrations, processions, parades, gatherings, and protest meetings will be prohibited on public roads in the area during that time. The curfew will take effect at 11 p.m., prohibiting movement and presence on public roads until the next morning.

Unchanged restricted perimeter

The restricted perimeter remains unchanged, extending from Rue Constantine in the north, excluding Place des Terreaux, and covering several quays and streets in the east, south, and west. The bridges crossing the Rhône and Saône remain excluded from the measure.
