Microsoft tests paid cloud gaming model

Microsoft is testing a new paid model for cloud gaming through its Xbox Insiders program, allowing users to access cloud gaming without needing a Game Pass subscription. This approach differs from a previous free cloud gaming service, which was supported by advertisements and available to Insiders since July.

Hourly access options introduced

The new model offers three "hour packs" that users can buy based on their needs: 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, and 50 hours for $11.99. The purchased hours do not expire and remain available as long as they are not used, giving users flexibility in how they use the service.

Limitations on game access

The paid access model allows users to play cloud versions of games they already own or free-to-play titles. However, it does not provide free access to the Game Pass catalog through cloud gaming. This aligns with Microsoft's recent efforts to tighten access conditions for Game Pass.

Restrictions on Game Pass subscribers

Microsoft has also limited the number of cloud gaming hours available to different types of Game Pass subscribers. This indicates a broader strategy to manage and control access to cloud gaming features across its user base.

Limited availability and future plans

The new paid access model is currently available only to a small group of users who are members of the Xbox Insider program. Microsoft has mentioned a larger-scale rollout in November but has not yet provided exact prices and conditions expected in Europe, particularly in France.
