Polish footballer Oskar Kordus, 20, has died in a rare and tragic accident involving a deer. The incident took place on the Gostyń bypass in western Poland around 6 a.m. on Monday, September 21. Kordus was driving between the towns of Krajewice and Grabonóg when a roe deer was struck by an oncoming Volkswagen. The impact caused the deer to be thrown into Kordus's BMW, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The deer crashed through the windscreen of Kordus's car, leading to a collision that sent the vehicle off the road and into a ditch. The driver of the Volkswagen, which initially hit the deer, was unharmed, according to local authorities. The State Fire Service in Gostyń confirmed that upon arriving at the scene, one of the injured individuals had no vital signs, while the other was not injured. Firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Kordus until emergency medical services arrived. Despite their efforts, Kordus was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday after being transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Poznań.
