Firefighters respond to stabbing

During the night of January 26, 2023, firefighters arrived at rue du Canal in Villeurbanne and discovered a man attempting to save his childhood friend's life by applying pressure to a wound.

Victim stabbed in argument

The victim, aged 31, had been stabbed following an argument near the entrance to tower 52 in the Saint-Jean neighborhood. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the victim was transported to the hospital, but he died around 3 a.m.

Suspect admits to stabbing

The suspect, who admitted to delivering the fatal knife wound, claimed he did not intend to kill his friend. However, the prosecution has argued that the act may have been premeditated, citing that the accused returned home to retrieve a knife before the incident.

Friends with a troubled history

The two men had known each other since childhood, attended the same school, and frequently met in the Saint-Jean neighborhood, where the victim lived with his father. Their relationship was reportedly marked by regular disputes.
