iRobot has introduced its latest flagship robot, the Roomba Max 875 Combo, which combines a vacuum and a mop in one device. This new model includes a unique feature called 'ThermaMist,' which uses an ultrasonic warm mist to pre-treat stains on floors before mopping begins. The mist is created through an ultrasonic process that heats water without using extra power on the robot itself—this heating happens in the charging dock instead, helping to conserve battery life. Users can choose to activate the ThermaMist function in specific areas of their home. The Roomba Max 875 Combo also includes a larger diameter mop that spins at a higher speed than previous models, giving it more scrubbing power. It is designed to reach near the edges of rooms and features a shield that helps prevent carpets from becoming overly wet. Additionally, the robot has a 'SealForce' system—a flexible skirt around the suction inlet that lowers to create a loose seal against carpet fibers. This system improves suction by directing airflow deeper into carpets, crevices, and grout lines for more effective cleaning. According to iRobot, the Roomba Max 875 Combo delivers 35,000Pa of suction power, making it one of the most powerful robot vacuums available. It is currently available for purchase in the UK at a price of £1,099 (approximately $1,490 or AU$2,060). However, the release of the device in the United States is temporarily on hold due to a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule that restricts the sale of foreign-made "advanced" robots. This rule applies to products that use certain technologies related to artificial intelligence or autonomous operation. iRobot recently came under new ownership after being acquired by the Chinese manufacturing company Picea. The company is now working to find ways to continue selling its products in the U.S. despite the current restrictions. While the Roomba Max 875 Combo is available in the UK, U.S. consumers will have to wait until iRobot resolves the regulatory challenges to get their hands on the latest model.
