The Presidents Cup is a golf competition that pits teams from the United States against an international team composed of players from other countries. After three days of competition at Medinah, the International team now holds a three-point lead over the United States team. This puts them in a strong position to win the tournament for the first time in 28 years, as they only need five more points on the final day to secure victory. The International team faced a tough challenge on day three, as they were behind in every match at one point. However, they managed to recover and now enter Sunday’s singles matches with a lead of 10-5-7.5. The United States team had the upper hand in the morning session, winning two matches and tying one of the four-balls. But the teams split the afternoon foursomes, with Canada’s Corey Conners saving par at the 18th hole to win the final match and keep the International team’s three-point lead intact. The International team has only won the Presidents Cup once since its inception in 1994, and that victory occurred outside the United States. This year’s competition is being held on American soil, adding extra significance to the International team’s chances. Team captain Geoff Ogilvy praised his players for their resilience, saying, “We were down in every match, and to come back and get one and a half points out of this morning, we felt that was a little victory because we were down everywhere.” He also acknowledged the strength of the U.S. team, noting that they played at a high level throughout the afternoon. Sunday will feature 12 singles matches, with each team needing 15.5 points to win the Presidents Cup. The final day of competition will determine whether the International team can secure their first victory in nearly three decades or if the United States will defend their title.
