Nearly six billion euros in public and private investment projects aimed at boosting the economies of France's overseas territories were announced at the first Choose Outre-mer summit in Paris. The event brought together over 150 companies, including ten from abroad, to discuss ways to support the development of these regions. More than 100 projects were recorded, covering a wide range of sectors such as energy, infrastructure, decarbonization, waste management, maritime economy, tourism, agriculture, food production, and even the space industry. Many of these investments are focused on transitioning to more sustainable energy sources. One of the major commitments comes from IDEX, a company planning to invest 250 million euros in a waste valorization unit in Macouria, Guyana. The company also plans to spend 225 million euros to upgrade an incinerator in Fort-de-France and establish a new center in Robert, Martinique. In Guadeloupe, Albioma will invest 100 million euros in a solid fuel furnace, while IDEX will contribute 10 million euros to a project in Saint-Martin. In Mayotte, the Océinde group will invest 6.2 million euros to rebuild the Mauvilac paint factory. These projects highlight the focus on technological innovation and infrastructure development across different regions. Other major investments include a new potable water plant in New Caledonia, developed by Suez Eau France for 55 million euros, and a naval maintenance hub by the Autonomous Port for 70 million euros. To support these efforts, the minister officially launched the "Outre-mer One" impact fund, which raised 35 million euros in its first round, surpassing its initial target of 30 million euros and aiming for a total of 50 million euros. The summit also emphasized employment, with 2,000 candidates applying for around 1,000 job offers. Agreements were signed with Bpifrance, France Travail, and Business France to support job creation. The France 2030 program has already allocated nearly 300 million euros to these overseas territories. The Choose Outre-mer summit is intended to be an annual event, with the next edition planned for early 2027. The 2027 edition will be hosted by New Caledonia under the name Choose New Caledonia, continuing the focus on economic development and investment in France's overseas regions.
