Google is reportedly working on integrating an AI-driven feature into its Android Auto system, which could enable cars to suggest ideal responses to messages received while driving. This feature, based on a system called Magic Cue previously used on Google Pixel smartphones, is currently in development and has been spotted in recent Android Auto versions 17.8 and 17.9. The system aims to offer pre-written responses to messages, such as sending a location or confirming arrival times, with just a gesture or voice command. Magic Cue was first introduced on the Google Pixel 10 and later renamed Proactive Assistance on the Pixel 11. It uses context analysis to read messages, emails, and calendar events to offer relevant actions. On Android Auto, the feature could suggest sending an address directly from Google Maps or starting navigation to a meeting. The system is described as "personalized" and designed to save time for drivers, with suggestions displayed "directly in the cabin." Currently, Magic Cue is only available on Google Pixel smartphones. Although it is already active on the Pixel 10 and its successor under the name Proactive Assistance, it is not found on other brands like Samsung Galaxy. No official information has been released about expanding the feature to other devices, even though Android Auto is installed in over 250 million vehicles globally. The integration of Magic Cue into Android Auto is connected to Google's Gemini Intelligence system, introduced earlier this year. However, no specific release date or list of affected car models or countries has been announced. The goal of the feature is to reduce the time drivers spend using their phones while driving, as every second of distraction increases the risk of an accident. The success of this feature will depend on how well drivers adapt to this new form of assistance.
