OpenAI, the organization behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has partnered with Amazon to allow advertisers using Amazon Ads to place their ads directly within ChatGPT. This is being done through Amazon’s Demand-Side Platform (DSP), a tool that helps advertisers buy ad space across various online platforms. The project is currently in a pilot phase, limited to a select group of advertisers in the United States, according to the media outlet Digiday. The integration of ads into ChatGPT was first announced earlier this year. However, OpenAI experienced delays in rolling out the feature to users in France and other parts of Europe. The company has been working to refine the system to ensure ads are relevant and do not disrupt the user experience. This is not the first time Amazon has partnered with major content providers to introduce advertising through its DSP platform. A year ago, Amazon reached an agreement with Netflix to allow ads to be shown to viewers in multiple countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Italy, Germany, and Australia. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a U.S. government agency responsible for protecting consumers and ensuring fair business practices, has filed a lawsuit against Amazon. The lawsuit claims that the company systematically overcharged 1.2 million advertisers on Amazon.com, collecting over $20 billion in excess fees without proper disclosure. The case is ongoing and could have significant implications for how online advertising is priced and regulated.
