The French political party Les Écologistes has approved a proposal that will allow its members to vote on the party's strategy for the 2027 presidential election. The motion, titled For Ecology, For the Union: Moving Forward and Deciding Together, was passed by the party's Federal Council with 69.44% of the votes cast, and with a high participation rate of 93%. The member vote is scheduled for December 13, when members will decide whether to support the party's current candidate, Marine Tondelier, or to align with a candidate from another leftist political group. The motion acknowledges that while Marine Tondelier is currently the official candidate for the Ecologists, the party is also engaging in discussions with other leftist groups. The proposal outlines three key priorities for the party’s campaign: making political ecology a reality, doing everything possible to secure a left-wing victory, and, as a fallback, preventing the far-right National Rally from gaining power. These priorities were highlighted during a press conference held via Zoom on Monday. Jean-Baptiste Pegeon, a member of the party's political bureau, reiterated these priorities during the press conference. He noted that the original proposal had been rejected by the socialists, which is why the party is now seeking to create a shared political platform with other leftist forces. Deputy Léa Balage El Mariky mentioned that the goal is to potentially develop a "government contract" — a unified policy framework — with these groups. While Marine Tondelier will remain the party's candidate for the presidency until the internal referendum, which is set to take place from October 10 to 13, the leadership will continue its discussions with other leftist groups. The final text outlining the options available to members in December will be presented in the second half of November.
