A Chinese smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Pro, has been reviewed by an editorial team before its planned release in France. One of its standout features is a 2.7-inch screen on the back of the device. This secondary screen allows users to take selfies using the rear cameras while also displaying incoming calls, notifications, weather updates, calendars, and even controlling music playback from streaming services. The team also explored the phone’s ability to generate AI-powered applications specifically for the back screen.
During the test, an application was created to simulate a 20-sided die (d20), a common tool in role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. The AI-generated app had a geometric design with night blue and deep purple colors, along with gold and white accents. It featured two buttons: "Roll the die" and "Reset." When the "Roll the die" button was pressed, an animated icosahedron (a 20-sided shape) appeared, displaying a random number between 1 and 20. A list of previous rolls was also shown, and the "Reset" button allowed users to clear the history.
The app was created using a specific menu in the phone’s settings called "Back Display," which includes an option titled "Generate application cards using AI." It is thought that Xiaomi is using its own MiMo AI models for this feature. The user provided a prompt describing the app, and the AI generated it in about five minutes. The user also requested a reset button, which was successfully added to the final version.
The AI application feature is currently in a beta phase, and users are limited to 20 prompts. After using all prompts, users may need to pay for additional access to the feature. It is still unclear whether this AI-generated app function will be available on the French versions of the Xiaomi 18 Pro or the larger Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
