Xiaomi has confirmed it is introducing an "anti-spy screen" feature on its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro smartphone, similar to the one recently launched by Samsung on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This feature is designed to prevent unintended viewing of sensitive information on the screen, such as passwords or messages, when the phone is not in use. The announcement is expected during a product conference scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, at 7 PM Beijing time (1 PM in Paris). The event is expected to focus on two models: the Xiaomi 18 Pro and its larger variant, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. The timing of the event coincides with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit, taking place from September 22 to 24, where the company is anticipated to unveil the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, fabricated using advanced 2 nm technology. Xiaomi has described its own mobile platform as a "2 nm mobile platform" but has not given it a specific name. The Xiaomi 18 Fold, released earlier in September, features Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chip. The company has shared extensive details about the device, leaving little room for surprises, although the final price has not been disclosed. One of the key features of the Xiaomi 18 Pro is its "Super Pixel 2.0" display, which uses a new luminescent material called M11. This material includes a more efficient green compound, improving screen performance. The screen's peak brightness reaches 4,000 nits, though this measurement is taken on a small portion of the display in HDR mode, compared to the iPhone 18 Pro's 3,000 nits. Xiaomi's official poster for the event mentions a "native anti-glance technology at the hardware level," but the company has not yet explained how the feature works or how it affects screen brightness and viewing angles. Earlier screenshots of Xiaomi’s HyperOS software suggested the feature could be called Smart Privacy Display. It may be activated manually or automatically when accessing sensitive apps, entering passwords, making payments, or viewing messages. This is similar to Samsung’s approach, but Xiaomi has added more automated controls. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is expected to feature ultra-thin 0.99 mm bezels, a 7,000 mAh battery, 200 Mpx main and periscope telephoto cameras, and a flat 6.3-inch 1.5K screen. Additional details, such as a 50 Mpx ultra-wide-angle lens and 100 W wired charging, are based on leaks and Chinese 3C certification. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max would share the same core specifications but with an 8,500 mAh battery, a larger 6.9-inch screen, and a more advanced main sensor. The release of the Xiaomi 18 is expected between December and January, with a 6.3-inch screen and similar features. The Xiaomi 18 Ultra, however, is not expected this year due to rising memory costs and may return in late 2027 or early 2028. The 7,000 mAh battery in the 18 Pro is designed to fit the same form factor as the iPhone 18 Pro, thanks to an anode with 32% silicon content.
