Puppy found in diaper box

Kelsey Petko, a Missouri resident, discovered a small brown puppy inside an empty Pampers diaper box near a trash bin after hearing strange noises. The puppy, later named Porky, was undernourished and weighed about 1.7 kg (3.8 pounds) when rescued.

Petko took a photo of Porky and posted it in a local Facebook group, which caught the attention of St. Louis Animal Care and Control. The team quickly responded and retrieved the puppy, bringing him to the Center for Animal Rescue and Enrichment of St. Louis (CARE STL), the city's shelter.

Puppy in critical condition

Upon arrival, medical staff at CARE STL estimated Porky was about two months old and in critical condition, unable to stand due to severe undernourishment. Despite his weak state, he showed signs of strength and determination to live, according to the shelter.

Puppy's recovery begins

The medical team at CARE STL immediately began providing essential care to stabilize Porky's condition. Over the following weeks, he made significant progress and regained enough strength to stand on his own, marking a turning point in his recovery.

Community support aids recovery

Local residents rallied around Porky, frequently contacting the shelter to check on his condition. This support was greatly appreciated by CARE STL. Porky has since left the shelter and is now in a foster family, continuing his journey to full recovery and eventual adoption.
