Influencers Awards debut in Mayotte

The Influencers Awards competition, which recognizes influencers and content creators on social media, will be held for the first time in Mayotte this year. The competition has already begun, and the grand winner of each category will receive a trophy during the ceremony on December 5th and will then be eligible to join the Influencers Awards Indian Ocean.

What the Influencers Awards recognize

The Influencers Awards are award ceremonies that recognize influencers and content creators for their work, creativity, and impact on social media. These events highlight personalities who stand out in different fields, such as fashion, beauty, lifestyle, or entertainment.

Twenty Mayotte influencers compete

In total, 20 Mayotte influencers have been selected to participate in the competition. Distributed across different categories, they will each attempt to win a trophy. The winners will then have the opportunity to join the competition of the Influencers Awards of the Indian Ocean, which will take place on the island of Mauritius.

Mayotte joins the Indian Ocean competition

Each year, a new island is integrated into the edition of the Influencers Awards of the Indian Ocean. After Reunion and Madagascar, it is now Mayotte's turn to be selected this year. To be included in this regional competition, an island must first organize a local selection, in the form of a gala or a challenge on its territory.

Aimée Diagne Gaya’s effort to include Mayotte

Aimée Diagne Gaya, the originator of this initiative in Mayotte, explained that to include an island in the edition of the Influencers Awards of the Indian Ocean, there must be a selection, with a gala or a challenge on the territory. She has already worked with Reunion and the island of Mauritius and fought with the global organization of the Influencers Awards, Wiba, to be able to represent the Indian Ocean region.

WIBA approval after two years of effort

The WIBA organization finally gave its approval to organize this ceremony in Mayotte. However, obtaining this authorization was not easy. Aimée Diagne Gaya stated that it took her two years to get the approval. For them, Mayotte only has 300,000 inhabitants, it is a small territory. The potential of content creators is not necessarily very recognized.

Participation from outside Mayotte

This first edition has a particularity: some content creators live outside of Mayotte, notably in metropolitan France or Reunion. A situation that complicates the selection, as WIBA normally requires a presence of more than six months on the territory.

Categories and future competition

Nearly 20 talents have been identified. Five categories will be awarded during a gala: humor, lifestyle, fashion and beauty, potential creator, and service creator. The winners will be able to represent Mayotte at the Influencers Awards of the Indian Ocean, scheduled for September 2027 on the island of Mauritius.

Selection and public voting

The 20 Mayotte influencers were selected thanks to N&A influence, which is the local contact for the Mayotte organization. A jury will also be responsible for evaluating the participants' content in order to select the winners. In parallel, the public will be able to vote starting November 23. The Mayotte influencers therefore have until December 5, the date of the ceremony, to convince the jury and mobilize their community.
