Apple has introduced the AirTag 2, an updated version of its popular item-tracking device, with several improvements over the original model. While the overall design remains similar, the new version includes a directional arrow that works with the Apple Watch to help users locate lost items more easily. It also features a louder speaker—twice as loud as the previous model—and a round, water-resistant sticker design. A set of four AirTag 2 units is currently available at a discounted price of 84 euros at the online retailer Joybuy. This includes an immediate 25 euro discount and a 10 euro coupon, bringing the total down from the usual market price of 119 euros. The difference between the AirTag 1 and AirTag 2 is subtle, with the main distinction being the model number. The original AirTag 1 has the reference number "A2187," while the new model uses a different identifier. Both versions offer similar water resistance, allowing them to survive being submerged in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. Their battery life is also comparable, with a single charge expected to last about a year. Neither version includes a pre-drilled hole for attaching to a keychain, but Apple sells separate accessories for this purpose, priced between 18.95 euros and 45 euros per strap. One of the key upgrades in the AirTag 2 is its compatibility with the Apple Watch. When paired with the watch, it can display a directional arrow or show the distance in meters to help users find lost items more efficiently. Both versions of the AirTag rely on Apple’s "Find My" app (known as "Localiser" in some regions) for tracking. This app uses a network of nearby iPhones to help locate lost devices, ensuring user privacy by not revealing specific locations or identities. Despite these improvements, the AirTag 2 is still considered relatively expensive compared to other Bluetooth-based tracking devices on the market. While it offers advanced features and seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem, consumers may find alternatives with similar functionality at lower prices. The device continues to appeal to Apple users who prioritize ease of use and integration with other Apple products.
