Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the latest installment in the popular Final Fantasy VII series, will not be available on a traditional physical disc. Instead, players will need to download the game digitally. This is a change from the previous two games in the series, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which were sold on physical discs. The decision was made by the game's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, who explained that using physical discs would have required compromises in the game's quality and technical performance. According to Hamaguchi, using multiple discs, as was done in earlier games, would have limited the game's graphical and technical capabilities. The development team wanted to ensure the game met their high standards and refused to make any concessions in that area. As a result, the team chose a new distribution method that allows them to deliver the game in the best possible condition. The game will be released on April 8, 2027, and will be available on several platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. While Hamaguchi acknowledges that some fans may not be entirely happy with the decision to move away from physical discs, he expressed confidence that players will appreciate the final product. The choice highlights the ongoing shift in the gaming industry toward digital distribution, even for major franchise titles.
