The Paris National Opera is launching the fifth and final edition of its program L'Opéra en Guyane, a cultural initiative designed to bring opera and dance performances to the overseas territory of French Guiana. This initiative, which has run for four years, aims to make high-quality artistic experiences available to people in remote areas. The final season, scheduled for 2026/2027, includes two major events that will mark the program’s conclusion. The first event, focused on dance, will take place in October 2026 at the Les Trois Fleuves cultural center in Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana. The performance, titled Une nuit dansée à l'Opéra, will run from October 21 to 23 and will be directed by Simone Valastro. The show will feature renowned dancers and musicians such as Dorothée Gilbert, Alice Renavand, Stéphane Bullion, and Mathieu Ganio, along with guest performers. In addition to the performances, a series of educational workshops will be held from October 24 to 29 in Cayenne, Kourou, Rémire-Montjoly, and Matoury. These workshops will cover classical dance, contemporary dance, and choral singing and will involve local conservatories and partner institutions, offering participants a chance to engage directly with professional artists. The program will conclude in April 2027 with a session dedicated to lyrical singing, featuring artists from the Paris Opera who will be in residence at the Academy. This final event will also serve as a foundation for future collaborations between the Paris Opera and cultural institutions in French Guiana, including the Conservatoire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre de Guyane (CMDTG), ensuring the continued exchange of artistic and educational resources.
