BYD unveils the Great Han electric sedan

BYD has introduced the Great Han, a large electric sedan measuring 5.256 meters in length, with a range of up to 1008 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, and performance comparable to a sports car. The vehicle, also known as Da Han in the domestic market, is part of BYD's Dynasty range and is offered in three versions with a starting price of 235,900 yuan, or approximately 35,000 euros.

Range varies by drivetrain configuration

The rear-wheel drive version claims a range of 1008 kilometers, while the all-wheel drive variant claims 880 kilometers. However, these figures may not translate directly to the European WLTP cycle, with estimates suggesting around 820 kilometers for the rear-wheel drive version.

Advanced battery and power specifications

Under the bodywork, all versions are equipped with a second-generation Blade battery of 102 kWh. The rear-wheel drive variant is equipped with an electric motor of 370 kW, or 496 horsepower, while the all-wheel drive version adds a front motor of 200 kW, bringing the total power to 570 kW, or 764 horsepower.

Efficient design and energy consumption

The sedan has a drag coefficient of 0.197, which helps reduce air resistance and energy consumption on highways. The rear-wheel drive version is credited with an official consumption of 11.5 kWh/100 km according to Chinese data.

Fast charging technology and infrastructure

BYD aims to address one of the main criticisms of electric cars, the time spent at the charging station, with the Blade 2.0 battery and Flash Charging technology. The manufacturer claims a charge from 10 to 70% in five minutes and from 10 to 97% in nine minutes.

Charging infrastructure development

These performances depend on compatible infrastructure capable of delivering the necessary power. BYD announces a charging power that can reach 1500 kW with its Flash stations and plans to develop its network in China, with a target of 20,000 Flash stations by the end of 2026. International deployment is also announced, but the concrete availability of these infrastructures in Europe remains to be confirmed.

Cold weather performance and advanced features

The second-generation battery also improves performance in cold weather, with BYD claiming a charge from 20 to 97% in twelve minutes at -30 degrees Celsius. The Great Han also features a double-chamber pneumatic suspension DiSus-A, rear steering wheels, and a LiDAR system installed on the roof, associated with the God's Eye driving assistance system.

Driving assistance and convenience features

These features should allow assisted driving functions on highways and in town, as well as remote parking maneuvers.
