At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, known as The Strip, a high-powered drag race took place between two iconic American muscle cars: a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The race, filmed by a videographer from the YouTube channel Wheels, covered 400 meters and ended with a time of 9.46 seconds. However, the result was complicated by a false start that led to a disqualification. The Strip is one of the most famous drag racing tracks in the United States. Since opening in 2000, it has become a popular venue for drag racing enthusiasts. It is one of the few four-lane tracks in the country, upgraded in 2018 to accommodate larger events. Although professional dragsters often reach speeds near 530 km/h at The Strip, this race involved two high-performance street-legal cars rather than specialized dragsters. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, part of the modern Challenger lineup, is powered by a 6.2-liter HEMI V8 supercharged engine that delivers up to 797 horsepower. This car is known for its straight-line speed and has been a favorite in drag racing. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, on the other hand, is the most powerful Mustang ever produced by the factory. It features a 5.2-liter Predator V8 engine with 760 horsepower and is equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for quick gear changes. During the race, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye performed a burnout before the start, heating its tires for better traction. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 remained stationary until the start signal. However, the Dodge driver triggered the start too early, resulting in a red light and a false start. Despite this, the Dodge continued and completed the 400-meter run in 9.46 seconds, reaching nearly 238 km/h. The Ford finished in 10.83 seconds at around 219 km/h. However, the false start meant the Dodge was disqualified, and the official victory went to the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. While the 9.46-second run was impressive, it was not recognized as the official result.
