BOA Burkina Faso reports strong profit growth

BOA Burkina Faso reported a net profit of 18.05 billion CFA francs (30.6 million dollars) for the first nine months of 2026, representing a 34.2 percent year-on-year increase. This growth highlights the bank's improved performance during the period.

Banking income and commissions rise

The bank's net banking income rose by 5.6 percent to approximately 45.7 billion CFA francs. Commissions, a significant driver of revenue growth, increased by 23.3 percent according to the quarterly report.

Pre-tax results show strong increase

The pre-tax result increased by 38.4 percent, reaching 21.1 billion CFA francs. This indicates a significant improvement in the bank’s profitability before considering taxes.

Cost of risk drops sharply

The improvement in profits had already been noticeable in the first half of the year, largely due to a decrease in the cost of risk, which fell by 65.2 percent to 2.4 billion CFA francs. This reduction helped offset a contraction in banking revenues.

Uncertainty remains on expenses

However, the quarterly publication does not provide details on general expenses or the cost of risk for the nine-month period, making it difficult to assess their respective contributions to the overall financial performance.

Deposits and credit growth noted

On the balance sheet, deposits reached 938.6 billion CFA francs, up 6.9 percent since December 2025. Net credits increased by 2.2 percent over the same period, reaching 484.5 billion CFA francs.

Lack of detail on loan distribution

However, the figures do not specify the amount of new loans granted or their distribution between households and businesses, leaving some aspects of the bank's lending activity unclear.
