Grégory Alldritt, captain of Stade Rochelais, has acknowledged that he is behind with the French national rugby team and does not want to rush his return. After a 38-13 win against ASM Clermont Auvergne on 3 October, Alldritt spoke with the newspaper Sud Ouest and explained that while he is eager to rejoin the national squad, he is focused on not rushing the process. "I know that it will bring me back to the French team, but I also do not want to skip steps, to get my head in a tangle and not sleep for the French team," he said, highlighting the need for a careful and deliberate approach. Alldritt expressed a desire to concentrate on Stade Rochelais' performance and his own leadership on the field. He aims to help the club regain its status as one of the top teams in the Top 14, France's premier rugby league. He believes that his club's success will naturally lead to more opportunities with the national team. "One year is very very long," he remarked, pointing to the 2027 World Cup in Australia as a long-term goal. The victory over Clermont was hard-fought, with the first half marked by tense moments in the ruck and scrum. Alldritt emphasized that his team needs to improve in these areas to maintain consistency. Despite the win, Stade Rochelais has had mixed results this season, including a narrow win in Toulon and a loss at Marcel-Deflandre. The team is currently sixth in the league, showing promise but also some unpredictability in their performance. Alldritt has a strong track record with Stade Rochelais, having won the Champions Cup in 2022 and 2023 and reaching the European final in 2021 and the Challenge Cup final in 2019. He has also been a finalist in the Top 14 in 2021 and 2023 and was named EPCR Player of the Year in 2023. With the French national team, Alldritt has made 58 appearances, including his debut in 2019 during a Six Nations match against Wales. His last appearance with the national team was in November 2025 during a win against Australia. However, he has not been as prominently featured in coach Fabien Galthié's plans during the recent Six Nations tournament. Alldritt is aware that strong performances with his club are crucial to regain the coach's favor and secure a spot in the 2027 World Cup squad.
