Modders announce cooperative mode for Cyberpunk 2077

A team of modders has revealed plans to create a cooperative mode for Cyberpunk 2077, allowing up to 8 players to experience the game together. The project, named NightCoop, was officially announced on October 16, 2026, through a YouTube video and its website.

NightCoop aims for shared campaign experience

The mod is designed to let players go through the full campaign of Cyberpunk 2077 in a shared world, with all quests, battles, and cinematics experienced together. Each participant will control their own version of V, the game’s protagonist, while maintaining their own character progression.

Additional features and beta plans

A player versus player mode is also in development. An open beta for the mod is scheduled for October 23, allowing players to test the cooperative experience before a full release. The mod will be free, and donations on Patreon will not grant access to exclusive content.

System requirements and limitations

The mod will only be available for PC under Windows, requiring a legal copy of Cyberpunk 2077 version 2.31 and the RED4ext tool. Console versions of the game will not be affected by the mod.

Gameplay mechanics and balance

In NightCoop, each player joins the host’s game and progresses through their own story while retaining their character, equipment, and upgrades. Dialogue choices will be decided by majority vote, while battles and other elements will be shared among all players. The host can also increase difficulty by making enemies smarter, rather than just stronger.

Fan projects extend game life beyond developers

NightCoop is the latest in a long line of fan projects that keep games alive long after their official release. These projects often push creative boundaries and sometimes lead to official integration by developers, showing that games can evolve beyond their original design.
