François-Camel high school in Saint-Girons gets 4.7M euros for expansion, sports facilities, and energy upgrades, improving education and green spaces.
Funding for school construction
The François-Camel high school in Saint-Girons, Ariège, received 4.7 million euros in funding from the Occitanie Region for construction work, which included expansion, sports facilities, energy renovation, and green spaces. The project was inaugurated last Thursday by Kamel Chibli, vice president of the local government responsible for education.New spaces for students and teachers
The extension built on-site adds nearly 600 square meters to the school. It includes two rooms for teaching, a gymnasium, a step space, changing rooms, as well as storage areas and teacher offices. This expansion allows for broader use of the spaces, particularly for physical activities, while increasing the number of available rooms.Redistribution of existing spaces
Beyond this new construction, the project allowed for the redistribution of spaces within existing buildings. Within the administration, a residence was converted to accommodate offices and meet the needs of administrative services and school life. A meeting room and social spaces were also renovated.Energy efficiency improvements
The work also focused on the general condition of the buildings and their energy consumption. Facades were insulated from the outside and windows were replaced. Solar protection systems were also renewed, while stairwells were renovated. The common area also benefited from the replacement of its window frames. To facilitate movement between different areas, the covered link connecting the boarding house to the administrative building was also rebuilt.Green spaces added
Finally, the expansion of the high school also led to a review of the surrounding areas. To compensate for the reduction in green areas due to the footprint of the new buildings, approximately 950 square meters have been redeveloped. These green spaces include a small petanque court for students.
