Department of Gers secures loans

The Department of Gers signed four loans totaling 6.07 million euros with the Banque des Territoires on Friday, October 9, in Auch. These loans, to be repaid over 25 years, are intended to fund various projects including secondary school renovations, cycle path developments, water-related infrastructure, and the reconstruction of a bridge.

School renovations receive largest share

The largest amount, 3.4 million euros, is allocated to the energy renovation of secondary schools. This includes the renovation of the Gimont secondary school and work following a fire linked to solar panels at the Fleurance secondary school. Additional funds are also designated for heating and air conditioning operations in several institutions.

Cycle paths get funding

A sum of 986,250 euros is allocated to cycle paths, specifically for the cycle path between Marsan and Aubiet and the extension of the Armagnac Greenway. Another 637,008 euros is intended for drinking water and sanitation projects, supporting various departmental operations and participations, including those with river syndicates and intercommunal syndicates.

Bridge reconstruction included

A final amount of 1.046 million euros is allocated to road infrastructure, primarily for the reconstruction of the bridge of L'Isle-de-Noé, which the Department describes as an essential structure for transportation on the territory.

Loans categorized by purpose

The four loans fall under two categories: two under the "Social Cohesion Loan" and two under the "Ecological Transformation Loan," which are devices of the Banque des Territoires intended for the financing of public investments.

Departmental president explains rationale

Philippe Dupouy, president of the Gers Departmental Council, stated that taking out loans is a means of giving projects the means to succeed when they respond to durable needs for the territory.
