Following the senatorial elections held on Sunday, eight deputies were elected to the upper house of the French parliament, the Senate, which is based in the Palais du Luxembourg. This means that eight deputies will leave the National Assembly—France’s lower house, located in the Palais-Bourbon—for the Senate. According to the electoral code, these deputies will be replaced by their alternates, unless those alternates decline the position, in which case a by-election would be held. Bernard de La Hamayde, representing the political group La Droite républicaine, will enter the National Assembly to represent the 2nd constituency of the Aube. He replaces Valérie Bazin-Malgras, who was elected to the Senate. De La Hamayde has served as mayor of Saint-Parres-lès-Vaudes for over 30 years and has held various local government roles in the Aube department. François Baroin, mayor of Troyes and a member of Les Républicains, praised de La Hamayde as a "dear friend, always and of great quality." Emmanuel Riotte, a member of the political group Horizons, will take over from Loïc Kervran in the 3rd constituency of the Cher. Riotte, currently mayor of Saint-Amand-Montrond, will use his new position to meet with ministers and highlight the needs of his town. Earlier this year, he gained attention for his efforts to prevent the closure of the local maternity ward, which included offering a bonus of 1,000 euros per newborn. Vanessa Parent, also from Horizons, will replace Christophe Plassard in the 5th constituency of Charente-Maritime. She is a municipal councilor in Château-d'Oléron, where her father is the mayor. Previously, she was the 4th deputy in charge of major roadworks and heritage buildings. The outgoing deputy expressed pride in helping someone of quality, noting that Parent will be the first female deputy in the 5th constituency.
