Emirates, a major international airline, unveiled two new features at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2026 in Dubai this week. These features aim to improve passenger comfort on its aircraft. The first is the U-Dream headrest for Economy class, and the second is a new electric Premium Economy seat with an adjustable privacy panel. These upgrades are expected to be introduced on Emirates’ Airbus A350s, with a gradual rollout across part of its fleet.
The U-Dream headrest is part of the Z400 seat, developed in partnership with Safran Seats. It is covered in leather and padded, with flexible side wings that fold around the head and neck to reduce movement during sleep. The headrest can be adjusted in height and tilt to suit different body types. Currently installed on three Airbus A350s, the U-Dream headrest is expected to be available on all of Emirates’ A350s by the end of the year. It will later be introduced on future Boeing 777X aircraft, and starting in 2027, on some A380 and 777 aircraft that have been refurbished. Emirates states that the headrest has been tested to meet European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) safety standards.
At the ATM 2026 event, Emirates also showcased its first fully electric Premium Economy seat. The main innovation is a central motorized privacy panel that can be adjusted and locked using individual controls. This panel extends up to the height of the backrest, offering greater privacy. The seat also includes predefined positions for meals and relaxation, a U-Dream leather headrest with adjustable side wings, and a retractable leather footrest. Emirates claims that combining an electric seat with a full-height privacy panel is a first for this class of travel.
The new Premium Economy seats will be installed in future Emirates Airbus A350s, with a cabin layout featuring 28 seats arranged in four rows in a 2-3-2 configuration. Each seat is expected to be 20 inches (50.8 cm) wide, with up to 39 inches (99 cm) of space between rows. Additional features include a 13.3-inch touchscreen compatible with 4K HDR, wireless charging, a USB-C port, and a smartphone stand. The backrest can recline into a "cradle" position without reducing legroom for the passenger behind. Emirates has not yet announced which routes will be the first to receive this new cabin configuration.
