March of Giants, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game created by developers who previously worked on Rainbow Six Siege, has been acquired by Ubisoft from Amazon Games Montréal. The game is set to enter early access during the summer of 2026. It is set in a World War I-inspired world filled with giants and Lovecraftian creatures—creatures inspired by the eerie, cosmic horror themes of author H.P. Lovecraft—fighting on maps modeled after Haussmann-style buildings, a type of urban architecture common in 19th-century Paris. Unlike traditional MOBAs, where players control individual characters, March of Giants allows players to manage small armies of soldiers that follow them. Commands are given using keys F and G, similar to summoner spells in League of Legends, a popular MOBA game. Xavier Marquis, the creative director of March of Giants, acknowledged the challenge of entering a market dominated by well-established games like League of Legends and DOTA 2. Despite this, he expressed confidence in the game's unique mechanics and the challenge it offers to players. Marquis noted that the game has a steep learning curve, but the team is working on matchmaking and training tools to help players adapt. During playtests, players became proficient in just a few hours, a marked improvement from earlier tests that required two full days of practice. Matches in March of Giants last up to 20-30 minutes, with the goal of destroying two of three main towers located at the map's edges. The game includes neutral objectives and forests that can be used for cover. The roster of giants is varied, with each offering different playstyles and complex mechanics. One of the tested giants, Trench Maw, is a Lovecraftian creature capable of digging underground to reappear near enemies, adding an element of unpredictability to combat. March of Giants will be free-to-play, featuring a traditional MOBA economic system where players can purchase in-game items. The game will undergo a public beta test from October 7 to October 18, 2025. While the team is optimistic about the game's potential, they recognize the difficulty of competing in the highly competitive MOBA space.
