A 17-year-old girl, Ilianna-Zélie, died after falling from a building during her birthday party in Paris, leading her mother to demand a full investigation into the incident. The fall occurred from a rooftop that was the equivalent of seven floors high in the 20th arrondissement of Paris on September 26. Her mother, Stéphanie, learned of her daughter’s death the next morning when three female police officers arrived at her home in Rueil-Malmaison, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, to inform her of the tragedy. Ilianna-Zélie was a student in the final year of high school at Lycée Victor-Hugo in the 3rd arrondissement. She lived with her mother and had an orderly life. A few days before the incident, Stéphanie received a message from her daughter’s friend, who had planned a surprise birthday party for Ilianna-Zélie. After checking to ensure the evening would go smoothly, Stéphanie eventually agreed to the plan. On September 26, a classmate revealed the surprise birthday plan to Ilianna-Zélie, but this did not change her cheerful demeanor. "She was sparkling and very happy," Stéphanie recalled. "She was listening to music, she was jumping around everywhere." The mother helped the teenager get ready by styling her hair and told her, "Have fun and send me some photos" before she left. Stéphanie exchanged messages with her daughter during the evening. At midnight, when Ilianna-Zélie blew out her candles, one of her friends sent a video to her mother. "My daughter was all joy," Stéphanie said. She replied, "Thank you girls for the cake. After that, I never heard from her again." The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear. The Paris prosecutor's office had opened an investigation for "murder and alteration of a crime scene," but an accident theory has also emerged. Maître Anissa Doumi, the lawyer for Stéphanie, stated that an investigation is currently being conducted to determine the exact circumstances of the death. The victim's family is requesting that the investigation continue in detail to establish all the circumstances of this death. A memorial march for Ilianna-Zélie is planned for October 11 at 2 p.m. in Paris, starting from the Place de la Nation and heading to the site of the incident, Boulevard de Belleville.
