Slack, the popular workplace communication platform, is rolling out several new features designed to make business communication more efficient and intuitive. Among these updates is the introduction of two-way voice chat, allowing users to interact with Slackbot, the company’s AI assistant. This feature will enable users to ask Slackbot questions in natural language, and the AI will respond verbally, potentially initiating actions like updating records or starting automated processes. While the feature is still labeled as “coming soon,” it signals Slack’s push toward integrating more AI-driven tools into daily work routines. During Salesforce’s Dreamforce 2026 event, Rob Seaman, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Slack, introduced a range of upgrades aimed at positioning Slack as the central hub for business operations. These updates include enhancements to Slackbot, which will now support more complex interactions. For instance, a user could verbally request to move a sales deal to the next stage, and Slackbot would confirm the action without the need for typing. Although a live demo at the event had some delays, the company emphasized that the feature is still in development and has time to refine its performance. In addition to voice chat, Slack is introducing a new tool called "Surface," which allows users to create interactive, live interfaces for workflows. By instructing Slackbot on what they need, users can generate a "Slackforce Surface" — a customizable interface that teams can use to filter, explore, and act on information together. This feature aims to streamline collaboration and decision-making within teams. Slackbot is also getting new capabilities in video and presentation creation. Users will be able to generate slides and video content directly within Slack, making it easier to prepare for meetings, pitches, and other presentations. Another notable update is the ability to tag Slackbot into a channel, allowing all members to interact with the AI’s responses. This should make it faster for teams to access assistance and resolve issues collaboratively.
