LEGO has announced that 34 sets inspired by video games will be removed from its product lineup by December 31. These sets include those based on popular games like Super Mario, Animal Crossing, Fortnite, Horizon, Sonic, and Minecraft. Once the remaining stock of these sets is sold out, they will no longer be produced, meaning future collectors may need to seek them out on the second-hand market. The LEGO Super Mario series will see four sets discontinued: 71440 - Interactive LEGO Luigi's Adventures, 71441 - Interactive LEGO Peach's Adventures, 72043 - Mario Kart: Interactive LEGO Mario and Standard Kart, and 72045 - Mario Kart: Maskass and P-Wing. LEGO has confirmed that the Luigi set is nearing the end of its production run. The LEGO Animal Crossing Nintendo range will lose four sets: 77053 - Star Observation with Celeste, 77056 - The Thibou Museum Collection, 77057 - Creative Houses: Through the Seasons, and 77058 - Mirza's Cozy House. The first of these, which has 78 pieces, is still available for purchase directly from LEGO. LEGO's Fortnite and Horizon sets will see the discontinuation of several models, including 77075 - Banana and Spark's Camp, 77076 - Durrr Burger Restaurant, 77077 - Klombo, and 77078 - Mech Team Leader, a larger model with 2,503 pieces. On the PlayStation side, 77037 - Aloy and Varl against a Carapace and a Scissor-Tooth will be the only set from the Horizon range to be discontinued, leaving the Horizon theme without any currently available sets in this collection. Six LEGO Sonic sets are also affected: 77001 - Sonic and the Campfire Challenge, 77002 - Cyclone versus Metal Sonic, 77005 - Knuckles versus Dr. Eggman's Egg Crusher Robot, 77006 - Sonic Team Command Truck, 77117 - Sonic: Lightning Bolt, and 77118 - Silver's Car versus Knuckles' Monster Truck. Minecraft will experience the largest reduction, with thirteen sets being discontinued, including 21266 - The Nether Lava Battle, 21267 - The Illager Patrol in the Desert, 21268 - The Baby Pig House, and others. A fourteenth set, 21584 - Journey Through the Nether and End Portals, completes the list. This means that Minecraft alone accounts for nearly half of the video game sets being removed. Finally, the exclusive set 40805 - The Arcade Cabinet will also be taken off the catalog. This small, retro model features a hidden miniature game room inside when opened. LEGO explains that removing sets from different themes is a normal part of their product strategy.
