Tesla reveals Cybercab details

Tesla shared new information about its upcoming Cybercab during a third-quarter results call. The vehicle is a two-seater designed for autonomous operation, and the company aims to deliver it to customers by the end of 2026.

Focus on robotaxi network

The Cybercab will initially serve Tesla’s autonomous transportation network rather than being sold directly to consumers. The company plans to prioritize building its own fleet of robotaxis, which will operate as a service rather than being owned by individuals.

Shift in business model

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, said the Cybercab will mainly be used for rideshare services, while other models like the Model 3, Model Y, and Roadster will remain available for personal ownership. This changes Tesla’s earlier approach, which included using privately owned cars for rideshare through its app.

Operational control

Tesla intends to manage its robotaxi fleet entirely, overseeing tasks such as charging, maintenance, and vehicle availability. This method aligns with strategies used by other companies in the autonomous vehicle industry.

Production and delivery timeline

The Cybercab is currently being built at Tesla’s Texas factory, but customer deliveries will begin only after the robotaxi fleet is fully operational and established.
