Apple has decided to stop including power adapters in the packaging of its new MacBook M5 models, leaving only the USB-C to MagSafe cable. This change aligns with new European regulations and differs from many other laptop manufacturers, who typically include proprietary power blocks. The company now encourages users to choose third-party chargers, as official Apple adapters are no longer automatically included in the box. To ensure proper charging, MacBook Pro models require a minimum of 65 watts (W), while the MacBook Air M5 and MacBook Neo need at least 30 W. Fast charging, which can charge a device to 50% in about 30 minutes, requires compatibility with Power Delivery 3.1. Users are advised to use certified third-party chargers from well-known brands like Anker, Ugreen, and Belkin, which offer compatibility with MacBook Pro and MacBook Air certified USB-C Power Delivery at a lower cost than official Apple adapters. Several third-party options are available for users. The UGreen Nexode 160 W PD 3.1 charger is compatible with Power Delivery 3.1 and can provide up to 140 W on its USB-C port. It includes three additional ports, including a USB-A port, and comes with a USB-C cable. The Anker foldable 70 W charger is ideal for the MacBook Air M5, offering three ports (two USB-C and one USB-A) and a compact design. The Anker 736 100 W charger uses second-generation GaN technology and supports multiple fast charging protocols. The Ugreen 100 W charger is similar but includes four ports, making it more versatile. The Belkin 200 W charging station, which uses GaN technology, offers four USB-C ports and is suitable for use as a charging station on a desk or bedside table. Apple allows users to add a power adapter to their MacBook Pro, Air, or Neo when ordering through its website, provided they customize the device, such as by adding RAM or storage. For base models, users can add a power adapter by visiting their cart. The available options vary by model, with choices including 30, 35, 70, or 96 W chargers. The 96 W version offers faster charging, enabling a 50% charge in 30 minutes, but is bulkier. The MacBook Pro M5 includes a 2-meter USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable, and Macs can be charged through either the MagSafe port or a USB-C port. Therefore, aside from the official Apple adapter, users can use third-party USB-C chargers. Certified third-party USB-C Power Delivery chargers are considered safe and often more cost-effective, provided they are from reputable brands. Apple chargers are MFi certified and support Power Delivery 3.1, but have only one USB-C port. Third-party multi-port chargers offer greater versatility. The power requirements for different MacBook models are as follows: MacBook Air M5 requires a minimum of 30 W, with 35 W recommended for fast charging; MacBook Neo requires 30 W; MacBook Pro 14 M5 requires a minimum of 65 W, with 96 W or 140 W recommended for fast PD 3.1 charging; and MacBook Pro 16 M5 requires a minimum of 96 W, with 140 W recommended.
