Crisis exercise tests emergency preparedness

The Bastia Urban Community (CAB) and the communes of Bastia and Ville-di-Pietrabugno held a crisis management exercise on Tuesday to prepare local authorities for major climatic events. The drill focused on testing procedures and the ability of local authorities to coordinate actions during emergencies.

Exercise simulates realistic flood scenario

The scenario involved a yellow rain-flood alert, accompanied by significant urban runoff that could cause damage and disrupt essential networks. Captain Pierre Ferrandini, a firefighter with the Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) of Haute-Corse, noted that the scenario was deliberately realistic, aiming to train on major risks expected to affect the region in the coming decade.

Serious Game simulator used for training

To make the exercise as concrete as possible, participants used the Serious Game simulator, developed by the SIS 2B. This tool allows the territory to be reproduced numerically, with a detailed map and three-dimensional models of buildings, enabling participants to visualize the consequences of a major event such as a flood.

Exercise emphasizes inter-service coordination

The exercise aimed to improve coordination between different actors involved in crisis management, including municipalities, inter-municipal authorities, and rescue services. Ferrandini stated that the SIS cannot manage crises of this magnitude alone and emphasized that crisis management is necessarily a collaborative effort across services.

Exercise includes international collaboration

The exercise was conducted in partnership with the European program Interreg and was being followed live from the Furiani stadium by an Italian delegation, aiming for cooperation and exchange of experiences. A conference on climate change risks was also held, allowing for the exchange of working methods and experiences to better understand increasingly violent climatic phenomena.
